Papaya
12 inches x 12 inches
Acrylic on CanvasA Papaya fruit within abstract composition made of newspaper articles collaged with images of snake forms.
The Bible says that Adam and Eve were driven out of Eden after eating from the Tree of Knowledge. We are not superior to them. In fact, it appears that humanity is using its knowledge to commit many more crimes against one another and the environment, and these crimes seem to be getting worse over time. Perhaps as we drift farther from sanity, we also drift further from heaven. This series serves as a reminder of the days when sins were limited to eating certain foods. The snake stands for the ongoing temptation we face on a daily basis.
A painted newspaper collage is used to portray the daily news and the various events that occur all around the world. There are times when we are preoccupied with our individual problems that we fail to notice significant social catastrophes. Despite the fact that we have access to the knowledge on many levels, some individuals, including myself occasionally, choose or are compelled to disregard it.
